We want to share an important development affecting our ability to ship to the U.S.
As of August 29, 2025, the U.S. will end the long-standing de minimis rule, which previously allowed low-value shipments (under US$800) to enter the country without duties or additional paperwork. This change follows a White House executive order issued in late July and applies globally.
From that date forward, shipments to the U.S., including ours, will be subject to duties, taxes, and brokerage fees, determined and collected by U.S. Customs and shipping carriers.
Multiple postal operators abroad have already announced temporary pauses on U.S. merchandise shipments due to uncertainty over the new procedures and duty collection. This is contributing to broader disruptions.
Because the costs and processes remain unclear at this time, we have made the very difficult decision to pause all U.S. shipments starting August 26, 2025, until we find a clear path forward.
U.S. customers: We will be accepting orders until August 25, 2025, at 11:59 PM EST. Please place any orders before this deadline to have your package delivered safely to your doorstep without any additional duties, taxes, or customs fees.
Canadian customers: Nothing changes, and you can continue ordering as usual. Your support means the world to us.
Without the de minimis exemption, tariffs and administrative fees significantly increase cross-border costs, which is especially challenging for small businesses. According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), nearly 40% of small businesses dealing with tariff costs will not last more than a year if nothing changes, and nearly one-third of Canadian small and medium enterprises expect to be negatively affected by the loss of the US$800 de minimis threshold.
We are deeply grateful to our Emeri community. Your support — every order, message, and shared cup of tea — makes our mission of helping our customers find their perfect matcha possible every single day. Though this pause is painful, we will keep working tirelessly to find a solution that allows us to ship to the U.S. again.
Thank you for all your support,
Josephine & Justin
